What do you call 'em?

I have noticed lately that the stats on my site are up as are the number of subscribers, as in they recently doubled. Huh? Cool. But, um, comments not so much.

I think maybe I haven't been writing about topics that are getting people talking. It's either that or you don't really like me anymore. I am an optimist, I am hoping it's the former, not the latter. So today, I am going to get you talking. That's right folks. Get your fingers ready, you are going to want to weigh in on this very important issue.

I have been doing this blogging thing for more three years, I totally flaked and missed my blogaversary, it was in March. And my 5ooth post is just around the corner.

Blogging is really fun hobby and has allowed me to spread my opinionated wings. But the best part of it all, well aside from sharing my life with family and friends, and you know, the internet, has been the love and support of my very loyal commenters. Thank you to each and every one of you. Many of you have become friends, this whole internet thing, it's pretty cool.

But I know there are many that read this and never comment. Today is your day. Come out and let me know you are reading this. I promise to welcome you with open arms. Say hi just this once. Or email. Or mention it in a conversation. The comments let me know there are people out there reading this and if the comments wane or stop, them maybe I should stop blathering on. I can take a hint. Really I can.

Actually I probably wouldn't stop but I would get mean and angry. Don't make put on my angry eyes.

Instead, let's get talking about underwear.

That's right. I said underwear. My husband, Jay, has very strong opinions on what names we cannot use for unmentionables. He is not strongly opinionated on much so we let him have his reign of dictatorship over the names of our undies.

Not allowed to be uttered, even under your breath, in the Khlopchyk house are the following:

- gotch
- gotchies
- gitch
- gitchies
- panties
-and my personal all time fave, under-gotchies

There are many names for that which we wear under our clothes. In our house, they are known as underwear. For the boys and for me, they are all underwear. Boring, maybe. But can you really say gotchies and keep a straight face? I'll be honest. I'd have a hard time taking you seriously if you use the word gotchies in a sentence. I mean no offense, it's just that Jay's dictatorship has brain washed me. Blame him.

So in anticipation of my upcoming 500th post, let's break my comment record! So far it stands at 29, when Jack had his eye surgery. Let's break it!

Tell me what you call 'em! Really, I want to know even if it's on the banned list. I won't judge you, I promise.

Ok you promised not to judge and since I am the first to comment I am going to go out on a limb.......we call them gotch and panties. There you have it 2 of the banned words..........are we still going to go for a picnic on wed? ;-)

Panties for Jenaya, underwear for Tyler. Tyler tries to come up with all sorts of different names and then he and Ross break into fits of laughter. Another good question would be how boys refer to their "private parts". This also brings on a great deal of laughter in our house. Boys - they can be so gross (Ross included). BTW I read every post, I am just not much into making comments.

I don't even know how to pronounce the word "gotchies!" It isn't like you talk to a baby and say "gootchy gootchy goo," right? Around here I call it underwear too though. But there is an exception - in my house we can say "panties" because it actually may at times need to be specified as to whether we are talking about a bra or not (bras do NOT go in the dryer, but panties can). :)

I've never even heard the word "gotchies"....is that a Canadian thing? Mine are panties and Den's are boxers.

Over here we call them underwear for the guys (well Ian, Corban still wears diapers) and for the girls we use both underwear and panties. Panties is NOT to be used in reference to male underwear though... Ian's rule not mine. :)

Hahaha, you're hilarious Kami. They are also called underwear in our house, best to keep it boring.

Boys do not wear panties! (It's a rule I've had to repeat often around here.)

I call em underwear!!
And fewer comments doesn't mean anything! A lot of great bloggers get very few comments. I wouldn't think anything of it. Keep writing no matter what!

GOTCHIES! hee!

Usually we just call 'em "undies".

When my ex and I were still together, I did teach my daughter at the ripe old age of two to call HIS boxers "panties". I still don't think he's forgiven me for the fact that she said to friends of the family, "Daddy wears panties".

heh.

Where the heck did all these "g" words come from for your underwear? Never heard of 'em. Around here it's undies, panties and sometimes "skivies."

P.S. My comments are down lately. Not sure what's up...

LMAO!!!

I think we use "undies" a lot for all of us. Maybe that will change when I actually have another girl in the house . . . not wearing diapers, that is.

Yes, I'm often bad at commenting. I frequently read but then something happens (i.e. a kid comes into my life) and I step away from my laptop and never remember to come back to comment. Or my oldest shuts the window and I forget completely. Mommy brain, that's what I'm blaming it on!

Boys wear underware and girls wear panties. Is gotchies a Canadian thing?!?! ;) Never heard that word before.

kami: gotch, gitch, undies, underwear, panties, boxers, skivies. use them all in our household. the girls laugh really hard when we call daddy's undies "panties". kenzie generally laughs a belly laugh and says "we said daddy wears panties- boys don't wear panties".

What the heck are gotchies? Is this another Canadian thing? Is my Union blood showing again?

We are underwear folks, too. NO PANTIES. eeessshhh.. Hate that word.

We call them underwear too. If I need a giggle, I call them "panties"

Oliver said...

just plain old "underwear". my wife and i don't call our own anything different so when when the kids are out of diapers, they will just call them underwear too.

OMG, I have never heard of "gotchies" or any of those similar words! Must be a North American thing! We call them undies (for boys) or knickers (for girls). Since there is only one girl in this house, the boys only really know the term "undies", and they call mine that as well, LOL :-) I don't like the word "panties" either, it just sounds ew!

Kristin said...

That is definitely some Canadian lingo, in our house I'm the prim and priss. The boys have undies and I have dainties.

hmmm, didn't realize there was a whole post here - just responded on facebook. The word varies throughout Canada - further west gonch, or ginch... Sask (and I don't know how much further east - gotch and gitch...

good times with words!

Noah HATES the word "panties". HATES it. We just call them "underwear" or "unnaweah".

I've never even heard of half of those names for undies.

and there you have what we usually say, "undies", but I have been told that is TOO feminine...so underwear is used as well.

nicole said...

Underwear for everyone. No lines of demarcation between the boys and the girls and their undergarments. Well, at least in reference to underwear.

Kami said...

Ha! I love this post! Never heard of "gotchies" et, al. We call 'em undies, panties, tighty-whities (his, not mine), ummmmm...that's about it, I think. My 4 year old niece is SERIOUSLY cracked up anytime anyone says "underpants" so we tend to work that into a lot of conversations with her :)

Ashley said...

In this house they are panties, even poor Corey's boxers are panties - that's not my choosing it's Bethany's. You see, she'll only wear her panties if Daddy wears his. I laugh every time.

Under gotchies... what a riot.
We just call them undies (or for the girl... will it be Hello Kitty or Dora today?)boxers, briefs...okay, TMI, right?

I've noticed not as many commenters as well...I think it's Twitter and facebook getting in the way of good old-fashioned blogging, and that's a shame, really...

I was going to hold out to be number 30, but don't want to forget.

In our house -seeing as our last name is Bundy- they're...

(wait for it)

Bundy undies! My almost 6 year old son still giggles when I say this.

For my 2 year old currently potty training son, they're "big boy pants."

Hi there! I read your blog! I'll comment more often.

I never even heard of the word gotchies before!

In our house, we call them underwear! Or, in Greek: Vrakaki. :)

Cammie said...

panties for me and Mal
undies or underwear for Pierce and Joe.
We are boring.
heehee

We are all panties over here. Abby even calls Jordan's "Daddy's panties". haha!

I do not need a name for I go commando. Sometimes in another man's fatigue's. It gets really interesting when I start to do lunges.

ok, just reading some of these comments..."danties" lol...that is cute.

Natalie said...

okay, david banned the use of the word panties when referring to his UNDERWEAR (said in manly voice). so at our house girls have panties and the boys wear underwear and/or boxers. my dad calls them skivvies!

okay and i am so glad that i was not the only one who had never heard of the 'g' words you were using...

yeah for breaking your comment record!

I call 'em panties but being a staunch Republican, my twelve yr old refers to them as Undergarments. Like he was in a royal court or somethin'.

Ashley said...

LOL, I haven't even heard of some of those! We usually call them "underwear." SOMETIMES panties- referring to the girls (me). The boys are also boxers.

Sorry I haven't commented much! I have barely even read any posts lately. I am trying to go through and catch up on my reading and commenting right now. :)

My comments have been low also-not that I ever really had all THAT many. But I haven't been around posting all that much either. And I can't say that any of my post are as interesting as yours are :)
