Spontaneous Photography Field Trip

Monday, I took a quick break from work. I fired up the van (it was -25 Celsius, brrr) and took a 30 min trip around the neighborhood.

I took 23 pictures and got these four. Not bad for a half hour and some very cold fingers.

And these are all in colour. Honest. I think that is why we all get so down and out during winter and people put their Christmas lights on right after Halloween (for the record, I think there should be a law - no Christmas lights until Dec 1 - too much of a good thing is too much), we need some colour.

Attempting to Shine

Road to the Pen

We don't live to far from the city's penitentiary. Don't worry, it's low security. Wait. Maybe that is exactly why you should worry? Gulp.

Anyway this is the road into the lovely place. I think. I turned around right after I took two snaps. It said restricted area, I didn't want to get arrested.

Park

This one emits pure lonliness to me. Haunting. Or maybe I am just reaching....

Yes, we drive on these roads

I often wonder what people think of the winter driving conditions we face daily. I think nothing of driving on a road like this. In fact, I get some kind of weird satisfaction from being able to maintain control of a vehicle on ice, ruts and some combination thereof.

Call in the therapy folks, she has really lost it now.

As much as I am not a fan of winter or the cold, I love the pictures you took, especially the second one! Awesome!

Thanks for sharing! I am missing snow and the cozy feeling of winter... we had a sand storm this morning... just not the same though...

It looks so beautiful, but I know driving in those conditions must be dangerous and frustrating. I have just never been anywhere that looks anything like that, with snow all over the place, it really looks so so pretty!

I love that last photo! Roads like that last photo, should they be in BC would require Environment Canada warnings, chains, de-icer, snow tires, a plow truck, a tow truck and half a dozen on lookers - because apparently all it taks is 5cm to scare us off the roads.

Bunch of "winners" (and when I say winners I mean weiners) these Fraser Valley drivers are :)

I like how much winter we have in Illinois. It's what I'm used to and I can't imagine any more or any less!!

Spectacular photos really. Weirdly I'm a little homesick looking at them. I'm trying to get over it by imagine shoveling my driveway.

I am watching the first tiny snowflakes of the season fall this morning. We've had a reprieve this winter -- I'm still not ready.

I really love your snowy photos Kami. You are right, there is not a lot of vibrant colours offered in the cold season. Not like summer or fall with the endless colour parade. Yet, there is still something really beautiful about the endless white that snow brings.
