The Honeymoon is over

Me and my camera left the honeymoon period of our relationship and recently took a walk down the wow, maybe we rushed into this too soon path. However, I think we may have found our way back to the straight and narrow.

We have work to do but I am re-inspired to give it the effort it requires.

I think.

I go back and forth from feeling like I have this f-stop, shutter speed and ISO stuff figured and then I take 1600 really crappy pictures and I put the camera down feeling intimidated.

Then I see some amazing pictures taken by people who know what they are doing and I get even more intimidated.

What do I know? I am an accountant. I live IN the box. People who live in the box are not creative.

Then I look at these pictures:

I took these BMNC (before my new camera) and I LOVE them. I love them so much that they are hanging in our newly re-decorated bedroom. I have a meme to do about that but the room is not yet complete.

Last night I attended a 3 hour seminar for the Canon Rebel camera held at a local photo store here in town.

To say it was enlightening would be an understatement. It took Angella’s Foto Friday’s to the next level. I learn best by listening, watching and then doing which is what last night was all about.

And as I drove home with all the information swimming around in my head I started thinking about some of the photos that have taken that I love. Those that evoke deep emotion within my heart and give me great satisfaction.

And I get concerned.

Why?

Because the experts would find faults, literally hundreds of faults. The angle, the colouring, the location of the subject in the frame.....and so on and so on. I noted this to Jay when I got home and he told me to stop looking at them.

Obviously someone who knows what they are doing could have taken far better photos of the same scenery but that doesn't mean I can't love them. I took them and I used a point and shoot with no training at all. Yes, I got decent shots by luck but so what? They are my shots and the subjects are my fabulous kids. Who needs more than that?

The intimidation I feel is me putting way to much pressure on myself.

I am but on the tip of the iceburg and it's supposed to be fun, not intimidating. I will learn and take better photos but for now, the old ones will remain loved regardless of whether or not they are expert worthy.

Because I am no expert and I am okay with that.

Hey, if it helps you're a way better photographer than me!

And I always thought your pictures were awesome!

I don't think it matters what the "experts" would say. If you love your pictures, that's the main thing! Besides, I would say that all your blog readers really enjoy your photography, I know I do!!

You can't go too far wrong with such gorgeous kids ;-)

Ahem. Those photos ARE incredibly beautiful - you did a wonderful job with them. And only YOU know what you were feeling when you took them but I imagine there was love and warmth surging through your heart so they are even more beautiful to you than they might be to some technically "perfect" professional photographer. But here is what is important - I'd be lying if I didn't tell you that a lot of that love and warmth comes right through those photos to us, so we (your bloggy buddies) love them too. I think being able to convey that message through the photo counts WAY more than any technical expertise. I also think you are only going to get even better with your new tool. :)

Exactly. FUN. ENJOY It. If you are taking them to frame for your own home, shouldn't YOU be the judge of whether they're good or not?

Your pictures capture a moment in time and thus bring back a memory every time you look at them. That is what is most important.

We will call you a memory catcher instead of a photographer.

Experts, schmexperts.

Take photos that capture the moments. That's all it is about.

I, for one, think you have a GREAT eye.

:)

The "experts" weren't always "experts". You take great photos and you are taking them for you and your family so you are the only ones you have to please. :)

I feel the same way. I have no idea how to use several of the features on my Canon and the manual is well, s*it!

I love these photos and I think it's great that you tried to learn more. Just keep taking pictures no matter what!!

Love your pictures & who cares what "faults" the so called experts find in them! They are great and it only matters that you love them!

These were the photos that led me to believe that you are a fabulous photographer - and YOU ARE!!

I am still working with my Canon - it is making me crazy. I go out every single day and take pictures and never remember what I did the day before.

Hope you had a good day - Kellan

Those two photographs are STUNNING. Gosh, I love them.

I STILL have a crappy camera. I don't always get clear shots. My camera only cost $200.00 although I would love a LARGE upgrade.

I worry, too, that my shots aren't the best. They all aren't clear or in focus, but you know what? It's doesn't matter.........

I love the pictures you take, and I love (and value) your other talents as well.

Although I would love to be a 'professional' photographer, I am not. And I wouldn't want anyone picking apart my favorite photos either. That being said, I have seen many photos by professionals that I didn't like.

You have an eye and you take great photos, ones you like. Just keep on doing what you have been doing and you will be just fine :)

I think they are great pictures and I will tell you why...
for the emotion they envoke in ME...and they are YOUR pictures so I can imagine how they make you feel!

Keep it up and take pictures for YOUR reasons not for the reasons the professionals do it.
